Bollywood dancers

D Dance Theatre CIC received Time to Shine Small Funds in 2018 to hold sessions of Bollywood Dancing in Oulton and Woodlesford, villages on the outskirts of Leeds. Classes are taught by professional dancer Chiragi Solanki, who has her own dance school and is a renowned Bollywood choreographer and dancer. Chiragi nurtures and inspires self-confidence in members and teaches classes for all abilities.

Members range in age from 50 to 88. D Dance Theatre aims to involve as many people from the local area as possible, offering transport and car shares and this is one of the ways the sessions have been able to reduce loneliness and isolation. In feedback forms, members said the classes have introduced them to new people and a new skill following retirement. As part of sessions, technical support is also offered to all members to help them use WhatsApp to keep in touch with family members and to grow their social circle. Members report increased fitness levels and improved balance after attending classes as well as great enjoyment!

D Dance Theatre has recently received a second contract with Leeds Community Foundation to deliver another Time to Shine Small Funds project to offer Bollywood Dancing in Cross Gates in Leeds.
