Loneliness Through a Lens

Time to Shine, a project led by Leeds Older Peoples Forum and funded by the National Lottery presents ‘Loneliness through a Lens’. This photographic display looks at Social Isolation and Loneliness through the eyes of Leeds residents aged fifty and over.

All the people in the photographs live in Leeds and partake in activities provided by at least one of Leeds’s 37 Neighbourhood Network Schemes. All have experienced feelings of isolation and loneliness, or have friends who have. But the causes and how these feelings manifest themselves are all different.

This display is there to give you a snapshot into people’s lives and to show that feelings of isolation and loneliness can happen at any time, to anybody. There are great things happening to address this currently, however Time to Shine and the people pictured feel there should be more happening to help people struggling with these issues.

The exhibit will be on from 27 September until the beginning of January and we hope it will help start conversations about loneliness and isolation and how we, as residents of Leeds, can get involved in finding solutions for these issues.

The photographs will be in the community cooridor at Leeds City Museum and all are welcome to come and view it. If you want to find out more about any of the groups pictures or be involved in any of Time to Shine’s projects, you can get in touch by emailing hanna@opforum.org or by looking at our website, www.timetoshineleeeds.org.
