Time to Shine Update – April 2016

Small Funds; 4 Exciting Projects

The first round of Small Funds has been awarded. There are four exciting projects which will be supported by Leeds Community Foundation to reach socially isolated older people in Leeds. Read more about the process and the successful proposals here:  http://timetoshineleeds.org/projects/small-funds/first-round-of-small-funds-awarded Sage Launch The Time to Shine LGBT project (formerly called “A Gay Old Time”) held a launch event on Friday 11 March, which was well-attended and lots of fun. The afternoon included some short film screenings (with popcorn!) as well as discussion about what the project should be known as and what people would like to focus on. The collective decision has been to call the project “Sage,” and the first meeting of its steering group has taken place. You can read more about the project here:http://timetoshineleeds.org/projects/sage

Digital Angels

The Time to Shine Digital Angels contract has been awarded to Age UK Leeds. Digital Angels will to work with socially isolated older people in Leeds to improve their quality of life and support them by helping them to connect with others and wider society both on line and off.

Calling all Thespians & Crafty People!

Time to Shine are going to have a stall at the Kirkstall Festival in July that we will use to promote the project and draw attention to the issue of social isolation amongst older people. We also want to use the stall to promote a positive image of older people and so would love to have a selection of crafts to sell/raffle made by older people. All profits from these sales would be given back to the group that they came from – so everybody would benefit. We are also putting together a film to launch our new training programme and need your help! The film will be along the theme of social isolation and loneliness in older people and if you have any free time I would love some help with either script writing or starring in the film. It is just a short film of less than five minutes so your acting skills will not be put to the test too much! If you have any crafty members of your groups that would be willing to share their talents with us them or you are interested in getting involved or know someone who might be please let Hanna know at hanna@opforum.org.uk or ring (0113) 244 1697 Thank you!
