Volunteering with Time To Shine

Time to Shine projects welcome volunteers. You could help an older person learn how to Skype, walk with them to their local shop so they can stay independent, or share a meal with them in a local restaurant.

If you have some time to give and would like to help, please click on the links below to see where you can volunteer.

Bee Together

Anna-Marie Garbutt of Bee Together explains:

"The project is different in the fact it is aimed at Older People with a Learning Disability (OPLD). I want to find the lonely and socially isolated, listen to their story and then hopefully signpost them to organisations able to help them overcome any difficulties. There are only a handful of groups throughout the UK with this target audience so this work is important, giving a voice to this under-represented group".

Bee Together is looking for volunteers who would like to visit or meet up with an older person with a learning disability, who may be coping by themselves but would like support to do the things they are interested in and enjoy.

Beeston: Purple Patch

Purple Patch Arts exists to improve the lives and life chances of people with learning disabilities by providing innovative, inclusive and creative learning experiences. We work across the Yorkshire region, and all of our projects and programmes use creative, interactive and multi-sensory teaching methods, which we call 'The Purple Patch Approach.' This includes art, dance, drama, music and literature.

We are looking for volunteers to help us to deliver our Togetherness Project, which aims to reduce social isolation in people who are aged over 50 both with and without learning disabilities. Sessions will be held on Friday afternoons at Hillside Enterprise Centre in Beeston, Leeds starting on 28th September. The project will last for 30 weeks, term times only.

Yorkshire Dance

From September 2018 we're looking to recruit enthusiastic volunteers to support a team of musicians and dance artists working in three care homes in Leeds, in Hyde Park, Pudsey and Morley.
