Don’t Call Me Old

Armley Helping Hands are happy to announce that we have secured three years funding from July 2018 with Time to Shine to run Don’t Call Me Old.

This is an exciting and innovative project working with People living within the Armley & Wortley district of Leeds 12.The project ambition is to develop inclusive services that reflect the aspirations and needs of people aged between 50 to 70.

Our Community Engagement Worker Michael Howard’s role is to develop inclusive services that reflect the aspirations and needs of people aged between 50 to 70 and to learn what will prevent them from becoming socially isolated as they get older. The project will be responsive in supporting individuals to engage within their local community and pursuing individual’s personal goals, in line with their choice and preferences and in ways which are socially inclusive and promotes independence.

The ambition of the Don’t Call Me Old project is to develop ways of working and partnerships with services and agencies within the community addressing the ever-changing needs and diversity within the locality. The project will work alongside Statutory, Voluntary and Private Sector to meet individual’s choices and will provide an inclusive, accessible gateway to information, advice, support and practical help, enabling people aged 50-70 to live independently resulting in a reduction of fear of crime, poverty and crucially preventing social isolation.

We are developing an outreach system, to make contact with people aged 50-70 currently not in touch with our neighbourhood work and thereafter, carry out initial assessment and consultation visits. In this way, we will be able to identify commonalities amongst this age group and start to deliver new ways of working which will prevent them from becoming socially isolated as the get older.
