Over one half of the carers using Carers Leeds are over 65. 15% are over 85. Caring often involves long hours of looking after a loved one, thus resulting in a higher risk for becoming socially isolated. Information, advice and support results in better wellbeing for carers--financially, socially and emotionally.
Carers Leeds will match volunteers to support older carers, over the phone and face-to-face. A dedicated staff member will support this network of volunteers to ensure that the appropriate service is being delivered and everyone is benefitting.
Regular volunteer contact can help the carer and cared for person remain safe. If the volunteer becomes aware that home life is becoming difficult, they can alert other staff who will contact the household to support them.
