Many older people see their bus pass as a key element to maintaining their independence and staying socially involved. Born out of an idea from a Young at Arts project run in Rothwell, "Bus Ride" will recruit volunteers to take a bus journey with older people who may be lonely and/or isolated. They will share stories as well as a cuppa or a meal. They may travel to a familiar location or somewhere they've never been before.
The stories will be recorded, transcribed, and eventually incorporated into a documentary film of the entire project. "Bus Ride" is the first step of a larger planned project called "Bus Pass," which aims to involve the stories of thousands of older people, and a be a site-specific performance utilising several double-decker buses.
