Leeds Eastern Fire Heritage Group
Building on the findings of the Glowing Embers project, a new group called the Leeds Eastern Fire Heritage Group will meet on a regular basis to reminisce about life in the fire service and also research and restore certain elements of the Old Fire Station in Gipton.
Through Show & Tell events, they will welcome members of the public to learn about this building's important place in history, for example during the Cold War and in the 1970s strikes. They will also grow the online archive and provide intergenerational opportunities. By contributing knowledge, care and time in such an engaging and interesting way, participants will stay connected with each other and with their wider community.
A Development Worker will not only support the group but also the individuals within it with any issues that might arise and cause a risk of isolation, such as health or housing problems.
