Hamara Dementia Outreach

From running a dementia cafe for the past 2 years, Hamara have found that people from BAME backgrounds who are living with dementia are particularly susceptible to social isolation. Dementia is often a taboo topic in certain communities, and sometimes language barriers prevent people from getting the individualised support and care that they need.

Through consultation with people living with dementia and their carers, they have developed the Dementia Outreach project, which will arrange for  trained befrienders to do home visits to provide companionship and practical assistance.

Participants will gain important information about assistance that is available, as well as build their confidence to go along to social activities.
