Intergenerational Project: University Connections

Just as getting older can trigger loneliness, starting university can do the same thing. With so much anticipation building up around leaving home and starting uni, students may be hesitant to admit that they are feeling lonely and isolated, but taking advantage of volunteering opportunities can really help.

Caring Together in Woodhouse and Little London have been told by students in the past that their volunteer activities went a long way in helping them overcome the loneliness which accompanied being in their new surroundings.

With support from Small Funds, Caring Together will build and develop on this idea, matching university students as volunteer befrienders for older members of the community who may also be lonely. It's a win-win.
